Natura Provida

Here is another distich by John Owen, with an English translation by Thomas Harvey, 3.73.

Natura Provida
Natura ingenuit rationem provida nobis;
Naturam ratio nos iubet ergo sequi.

Wise Nature hath with Reason us supply’d;
Which wills us to take Nature for our Guide.

The vocabulary is keyed to the DCC Latin Vocabulary list. There are two words in this poem that are not on the DCC list:

ingignō, ingignere, ingenuī: implant, engender
prōvidus, -a, -um: provident, with forethought

ergo: therefore
iubeō iubēre iūssī iūssum: bid, order
nātūra -ae f.: nature
nōs nostrum/nostrī nobis nōs: we
ratio -ōnis f.: method, plan, reason
sequor sequī secūtus sum: follow
