Iurat capillos esse...

Here is today's distich by Martial, 6.12. This poem plays nicely with the idea of just what is "your own" and what is not. Is it yours because you have bought it...? Indeed!

Iurat capillos esse, quos emit, suos
Fabulla: numquid illa, Paule, peierat?

The golden hair that Galla wears
Is hers; who would have thought it?
She swears 'tis hers, and true she swears
For I know where she bought it.
-Sir John Harrington
