Quae Nocent, Docent
Passi damna viri sapiunt; sapientia damno
   Crescit et augetur: quae nocuere, docent.

Men grow wise (viri sapiunt) after they suffer injuries (passi damna); by means of injury (damno) wisdom grows and expands (sapientia crescit et augetur): those things which harm (quae nocuere), teach (docent).
