Bis Pereo

Here is today's emblem and distich by Joachim Camerarius, 3:13. What a great illustration of the eagle pierced by its own feather! This is also an Aesop's fable; here is a Latin version.

Bis Pereo
Ipsa suis pennis aquila interit icta: refertur
Scilicet haec hodie gratia promeritis.

Here is the vocabulary:

bis - twice
pereo - perish, die
ipse - intensive adj/pronoun
suus - reflexive possessive
penna - feather
aquila - eagle
intereo - die
icio - hit, strick, smite
refero - carry back, report, refer
scilicet - of course, certainly
hic - this
hodie - today
gratia - thanks, favor
promereo - deserve, merit, gain
