Mittebas libram...

Here is today's distich by Martial, 11.105: it provides a good little lesson in Roman counting as Martial makes his plea to Garricus.

Mittebas libram, quadrantem, Garrice, mittis;
Saltem semissem, Garrice, solve mihi.


Here is the vocabulary:

mitto - send
libra - pound
quadrans - quarter, a fourth part
Garricus - Garricus
saltem - at least, anyhow
semis - half
solvo - untie, pay off, pay back
