Fidem Servabo Genusque

Here is today's emblem and distich by Joachim Camerarius, 3:30. Camerarius clearly has a higher opinion of the hawk than the hawk we see in Hesiod or Aesop!

Fidem Servabo Genusque
Non necat accipiter, tenuit quem nocte volucrem;
Sic servare solet mens generosa fidem.

Here is the vocabulary:

fides - faith, trust
servo - keep, preserve
genus - race, ancestry, birth
que - and
non - not
neco - kill
accipiter - hawk
teneo - hold, grasp
qui - who, which, that
nox - night
volucris - flying; bird
sic - thus
soleo - be accustomed to, usually
mens - mind
generosa - noble, well-born
