Non capit optatum...

Here is today's Rhyming Distich, and here are some more posts with Rhyming Distichs. This one is from Zacher's Altfranzösische Sprichwörter.

Non capit optatum munus, qui non dat amatum;
Ni quod amas dederis, optata non potieris.

The vocabulary is keyed to the DCC Latin Vocabulary list. There are two words which are not on the DCC list:

opto -āre - wish for, desire, choose
potior, -īrī, potītum - get possession of, become master of

amo -āre: to love
capio capere cēpī captum: seize
do dare dedī datum: give
mūnus mūneris n.: gift, offering
nisi/nī: if not, unless
nōn: not
qui, quae, quod: who, which, what; quis quid: who? what? which?
